Remind my poor brain

Who do I know that's good in the SCA dance community?

Couple having an arguement (suspected inebriation involved) about 15' from my tent.

In essence, the woman was screeching that the man had lied to her. They'd met online through an SCA mailing list. He'd described his personna to her. They met for real at Pennsic. She was furious that the man she fell in love with (aka the personna) wasn't the same as the man she met (aka the real guy). "You lied to me about who you were!"

Uh, lady - you met online. (Duh, he lied)
You fell in love with his personna? (Man, you're dim)
You thought he actually was a 14th century lord with a castle (and really stupid, apparently)

Torn between giggling and strangling them, I stuck with giggling. Strangling them would have involved getting dressed and out of bed.

Oh - it was 3am at the time.

I love pennsic, but yah - the morons are worse each year, and I get older and crotchetier every year.

What happens when the fighters get a little too much sun

(Apparently this is a couple of Ansteorrans, according to the link I got it from. My favourite is "pole dance")

Edit: According to [livejournal.com profile] rixende, this was:
That would have been at Gothic War, in the Western Region of Ansteorra. The Tournament was in honor of Master Cadwalder the Crazed. He had a habit of fighting with whatever odd thing that was on hand. So, people specifically tried to find wierd weapon combos.

Other cool weapons of the day:
Invisible spears
Sword and Knight
One handed spears while sitting in chairs
etc.

finally having put together my very first semi-italian ren overdress.

Yah, yah, the textile gifted in the crowd aren't impressed. I am - I used an overdress I own that's a little too short & snug for the base pattern, made adjustments, made reworks when I realised I didn't have enough to do the edges of the neck & arms properly, got it to drape prettily, etc etc. I still need to grommet the silly thing, but other than that and lacing, it's done. And it looks faboo on me.

Nita happy and pleased with herself.

Is it bad that I just looked at what I still need to do and went " oh...that's not that awful"

With the exception of serving stuff for the feast, I'm pretty much where I expected to be (okay, so downloading that information to my staff is a bitch, cause my brain is hosed, but...)

Damn...you'd think I know what I'm doing.

I told the organizer that yes, we could add 2 more tables.

Now the butterflies that just weren't there about being able to produce something that justifies this kind of response have started.

I know I'm a good cook.

I know that this will work.

I know that I have a good staff.

I'm just not positive that I'm going to live up to the evident expectation.

Oy.

I just go contacted by the organizer of the Coronation Feast.

We're sold out. (10 days in advance!!) She wants me to add (if I can) 2 more tables (of 8). She's also leaving the decision if we can do this to me.

I told her I have to do some thinking to see if I can actually fit the stuff in.

Whee!

Now I have to decide if I can pull this off...

There's nothing like knowing people like my food to give me a shot in the arm. Granted, it's Coronation, so there wasn't much danger of not having enough people, but...still.

So today, my coworker who taught me how to make the camenbert came in today with the first of the fully riped rounds.

Wow. It looks & tastes right.

This is far too cool.

I can make cheese!

Hurm....I need to get more stuff for my kitchen.

I am beginning to think bringing [livejournal.com profile] much_ado in to dekipple the kitchen sooner than later would be a *good* idea...

So, I spent last night learning how to turn 12L of 3.25% milk into 3lbs of camembert and 1.5lbs of ricotta. It seemed reasonably easy, if time consuming, and I think I may have a new kitchen-geeking hobby.

Later edit: Now I just have to wait about 10-15 days before the ripening cheeses get transferred to my house for the remainder of the ripening process (ie. waiting for the molds to get established first). I can't wait to see how they turned out.

I've sent as nicely worded as I can be letter to their highnesses explaining that I was hurt, for want of a better word, that they felt they could not come to me directly, and that I will try to work in *some* of their suggestions, and get a new draft to them by friday next week, and that if that's no good, I'll help find another cook for them, as I'm not the one they want.

Feh.

Draft Menu: Coronation - September 18, 2004 )

I know there are some points that are pushing it, but *most* of it I can point to the documentation (that at least someone did - not me). There are a few points of me fudging it, but it's a "I can't find proof that they did it this way" as opposed to "they didn't do it this way, there's nothing to be done". And I'm planning on doing something instead of the tomato in the tabouli.

if meringues are period? Working out thoughts for a late period French/mid period Middle Eastern Feast.

Thanks!

I've done some initial investigation and I should be trivially able to stay inside my budget for Coronation Feast. I should be ready by later today or early tomorrow to email TRH's Chamberlain and the Event boss with the tentative menu, and then when that's approved, off to the web person for updating.

I'm going to have so much fun with this...

Now I just have to find out if meringues are period...

Feast stuff:

Okay - she's 16th C French, he's 11thC Spanish Moor. I'm still waiting on the "food info" list (likes, dislikes, allergies), but that gives me something to start with...have a cheesy idea of switching the desserts for each remove - the middle eastern with the french & vice versa - the cheesy idea that came to me last night was "saving the sweetest part of the meal be the sweetest part of their lives"

Yah, I'm a sap.
