Okay - calling to see if anyone knows

Friend of mine just bought a new-used car. 2000 Hyundai Elantra wagon. Problem? It doesn't have air conditioning and the dealership is claiming there are no "kits" to give it AC in the entirety of north america. I'm not sure I buy that. Any one out there in the wonderful world of LJ that knows anything about after market car stuff that might be able to help?
