the_nita: usual shot when I'm directing - since I'm *not* looking at actors, I must be working on the script. (Japanese)
I've agreed to do feast for Ealdormere's Kingdom A&S in November, presuming the bid gets accepted.

It's always nice to have an autocrat do a little dance when you agree to something - especially when part of why they're dancing is that they don't have to do anything to instruct you.

So [livejournal.com profile] woodardp and I are talking on the drive to Ottawa earlier this week and he comes up with a lovely idea for a feast concept - "the Hunt". Have one of the better bards in the kingdom (probably going to ask Hector) regale the hall with the story of the day's hunt while they're having their apps. At the appropriate moment, have some magnificent beast (in this case, likely a boar if I can make all the appropriate dominos line up right), brought in on a huge platter & up to head table. King/Queen do some schtick over the beastie, then it gets sent back to the kitchen for carving & plating. Meanwhile the rest of the feast continues to come out.

Do it all as a series of courses, as opposed to the much wretched removes (Nothing like having to make two or more entire meals to drive you mental).

Granted, the hall has some drawbacks, but I have plans and it's still early enough to change menu ideas if this isn't going to work.

So far menu looks like this:

Some kind of wild mushroom soup ([livejournal.com profile] woodardp wants me to put it in breadbowls)
Roasted duck with some kind of citrus-y stuffing?
Spit roast (if we can do it) a whole boar - basted/marinaded with a peppery sauce
Tartlettes of sweet homemade jams & custards to be served with the boar
Home made cheeses
Various vegetables - will need to review my notes - can't remember now.

Should be fun.....
