I finished Variable Star, the latest Spider Robinson book that was based from notes from RAH.
My comments while I was reading it was "This is so not a Heinlein book - if for no other reason than the women aren't nearly strong enough characters and there's WAY too much music bits in it". It's a good book, get me not wrong (okay, I think the ending bites juicy chunks of ass, but that's just me). It's just not RAH.
Then I start reading Robinson's epilogue about how he wound up writing this book. That it was from notes, and he was specifically told not to write a Heinlein book, but to write the best Robinson book he could from RAH's notes. Okay, fair enough - that explains the music and girls. I like Robinson, but I could use most of the women in his stories for cheap tissue paper. Then I see that while there were 8 pages of notes, plus a bunch of cuecards, apparently the important 8th page (aka, that had the ending) was missing when he got it. That explains the ending - how do you wrap this story up without having a Cat Who Walks Through Walls or Number of the Beast problem - aka the ending bites.
I'm glad I bought it - I like both authors. I'm glad I didn't expect anything in particular.

I don't intend to have a funeral where there's a casket - hell, I would prefer no funeral, but I recognize that it isn't about me at that point.
But the idea of getting the plain pine box, and handing everyone sharpie markers and asking them to write their thoughts to me on the box just really appeals on a "dude, that would freak the funeral home something fierce" way.
Yes, I have a very dark sense of humour.
