finally having put together my very first semi-italian ren overdress.

Yah, yah, the textile gifted in the crowd aren't impressed. I am - I used an overdress I own that's a little too short & snug for the base pattern, made adjustments, made reworks when I realised I didn't have enough to do the edges of the neck & arms properly, got it to drape prettily, etc etc. I still need to grommet the silly thing, but other than that and lacing, it's done. And it looks faboo on me.

Nita happy and pleased with herself.

Whahoo...I'm booking along now - thanks to [livejournal.com profile] much_ado making space in her studio & life for a regular sewing/social night, I'm actually making some progress with the kimonos again. I have the white & blue silks to the point where they're just handwork - sewing down the neckband & hemwork. The salmon tapestry fabric one and the purple silk are both half done - need neckbands, sleeves & then handwork. Which means I'm planning on bringing my red cotton one (my first & the one closest to the pattern I originally created for me) and bringing it to the next sewing night so I can take adjustment measurements for creating her kimono muslin.

So - what's on the kimono list currently??

White silk - handwork
Blue silk - handwork
Purple silk - sleeves, neckband, handwork
Salmon - sleeves, neckband, handwork
Red sushi cotton - all the sewing - it's just cut out
IG's blue linen - handwork
[livejournal.com profile] woodardp's muslin - sew together & fit
[livejournal.com profile] much_ado's muslin - measure & cut out muslin

Then there's the under clothes, but I want to get these things off the plate first.

Plus I apparently now have a target date of 3-8 months to get the damned full kit done...which means I have to find time to get the under clothes (especially the new pants) figured out & made. Which I suspect will be another shopping trip, to my dear love's dismay.

Had a really good night last night. Came home from work to dinner in the oven already. Had to console LB for a bit (as I was about 30 minutes late getting home) and nursed & played with him for a bit. Then dinner, then gather stuff to work on and head to [livejournal.com profile] much_ado's place. Good textile & gabfest time. [livejournal.com profile] carolep and I did the "trip down memory lane" as we discussed people I used to live with, be friends with, be involved with. Was ... interesting. Got LB's quilt together, and the edges on. Just need to pin & quilt the main body. Since I'm planning on doing this with the machine, should be done soon (for some def'n of soon). I'm hoping to be done with it by the next stitch & bitch & be able to bring the kimonos.

Home a touch late (didn't pay attention to the clock) to a wee boy who'd been up for 30 minutes, wondering where mama was. Nursed him till he fell asleep, and spent some quality happy time with [livejournal.com profile] woodardp.

It was a good night.

Granted, I'm paying for not going to sleep till just after midnight, but once in a while, I can do that.

I finished all but the hand sewing on the white silk yesterday. Probably need something like an hour of uninterrupted sewing time to have that complete.

Started work on the blue silk yesterday - just barely touched it, when it was time to trundle me off to bed.

Still want to bring the sewing machine to the office....

Yah, so I didn't get anything done with the kimonos this weekend. Mostly because Pavel & I were working on the house.

Got another 3.5 feet of the hardwood floor in the hallway installed (damn that takes time), plus painted another wall, painted & installed the baseboards necessary to complete the primary task of the weekend - installing baby gates!

Got the one in the kitchen installed.

Got the one in the hallway installed!

Installed the wall hardware for the top of the stairs gate!

Then we found the piece missing from the third gate and had to stop.

Actually, Pavel moved the gate from the hallway to the top of the stairs.

He's going to IKEA today (hardship!) to get another gate bit - tonight we'll have all three gates up.

Pavel's in love with the new pneumatic brad nailer - made putting the baseboards up take minutes as opposed to hours.

I just need more sleep.

So I stopped doing stupid things with the kimono and got a little further last night with sewing the white silk. I'm halfway through the neckband - just need to do the zfold, then sew the ends, invert it, and leave it for hand-work at the end. Then the sleeves, sew up the sides & hem, and other than the handwork, it's done!

Yes!

Okay, so I'm half-way and this should have been done already, but I've made a few "damn, where was my head at" mistakes.

But it's coming along nicely...

If I'm lucky, and we decide we're going to coronation, maybe I'll wear the new silks.

So - they're all serged, and I've started putting together the white silk one.

Then I realised that I screwed up slightly. Instead of sewing the front & back at the shoulders (like I was supposed to), I sewed it down the sides.

It was only when I started to try to put the yoke in that I went - hey - where do the arms go??

I hate having to rip seams in silk.

sigh

I got another kimono serged.

The white silk one.

Tonight's plan (should the universe & LB be so kind) is to get the purple silk & the salmon brocade serged.

The sushi one is Friday.

Saturday morning, prior to going to [livejournal.com profile] hel_ana's place, I'm hoping to get Pavel's muslin for the kimono together, so I can size it and get started cutting out stuff for him.

Sunday, I plead with theAunt to see if I can get her to help me figure out hakama and naga-bakama (which looks to me suspiciously like a fuller version of hakama, but I can't find any evidence of that).

Yah, didn't get any sewing done yesterday. Picked up all the many-coloured threads that I'll need for my stuff.

At some point this week - not tonight - I'm finishing serging the pieces, then this weekend I'm finding time to sew things together. I'd like to have at least one piece that I can bring to the FASS AGM so I can do the hand-sewing to finish it.

Yes, I'm ambitious, but there are lots of people at FASS who'll want to hold LB, so I might actually be able to do this...

So - over the weekend, I got the white silk, purple silk & red sushi print cotton cut out, and the blue silk serged.

I feel so accomplished. In such a "wow, and I have a baby on top of this" sort of way.

Now I have to hit the stores to pick up serger thread for some more colours.

I lead such an exciting life.

Blue silk is cut out.

White silk is laid out & pinned, just needs to be cut. Found better layout, which means used less fabric, which means more silk stuff for my family. *yay*

Tonight is cut out white, possibly lay & cut out purple.

I'm planning on having all *5* of them cut out by Sunday evening.

Let's see how that works. I have one done. I'm hoping to get another done tonight.

Honest, it shouldn't take that long. Really. No, honest.

Yah, I'm hosed.

You'd think I'd have more time. Babies take lots of time, apparently. *grin*

Home again, home again, jiggity jig.

Well, got the salmon brocade cut out last night. Pleased me because I wound up only using about half the fabric (turned out wider than I had anticipated). Means I'll get to use the rest for something for Pavel or LB.

Didn't get the white silk cut out, but LB started getting fussy that Mommy wasn't paying attention to him, so went & played with him for a while.

Need to pick up some serger thread for finishing the stuff off (I hate fraying threads) - I wish I could find "invisible" serger thread....I can't see ever needing salmon thread again...

Urk - now that i have a list, that means I actually have to find some time/space/etc to actually start sewing.

That and start pleading with people who can sew better than I can to help me with some of it (I have 3 hunks of fabric that were bought to make bodices - I think the "youngest" is 3 years old).

When I get home tonight, I'm to try to cut out the pieces for the kimonos - three silk, two brocades. Plus I'm going to update this with the sewing information so I can remember it, when I lose the piece of paper.
