the_nita: usual shot when I'm directing - since I'm *not* looking at actors, I must be working on the script. (directing, Nita)

Nothing much to tell - usually somewhat more garrulous in person - I'm a mom, a business woman, and generally learning what makes me me.

And then there's the theatre. I do a fair bit of production work now, plus some directing and the occasional acting gig.

Then there's the food. I cook. A lot. At any given point.

Because putting them in more places is useful:

Nita's rules for life

Rule 0: The Meta Rule: Don't get caught.

Also known as the 11th Commandment.

Rule 1: Always have fun.

If it isn't fun or interesting to do, why are you doing it?

Rule 2: Remember to go the bathroom first.

Take care of the little things before you wind up regretting it.

Rule 3: Don't sweat the little things.

If you've tried to take care of the little things and some of it doesn't work, don't kill yourself over it. Stuff happens.

Rule 4: All for one, and one for all.

Be loyal and love. Remember it works both ways.

Rule 5: Kiss her, you idiot.

Take chances. You never know what'll happen.

Rule 6: There is no rule 6.

(hey, I grew up with Python, you're surprised?)

Rule 7: Windbags are good making bagpipes.

Don't tell me you're doing something. Do it.

Rule 8: Faint heart never won fair lady.

If the only reason you're not doing something is you're afraid, DO IT.

Rule 9: Inside voice, inside. Outside voice outside.

Consider where you are before you open your mouth.

Rule 10: This is just meat.

The thing I call my body is not me. I'm the force of personality and the joy I take in my life. My body is a nice thing, but it's not my defining characteristic.

Rule 11: Tell them.

If you care about someone, make sure they know. Not just words, not just actions, but both. And don't expect them to "just know".

Rule 12: Cope.

If life dumps a pile of manure on you, remember it could have had a cow fall on you as well. That would hurt.

If you need a translation, go read more. Then bother me.

Rule 14: No major life decisions when sick, exhausted or in pain.

Not always possible, but any of the three play major havok with my decision making skills. I KNOW this and try to work with that.

There you go. How I try to live my life in a few simple rules.

For me - the to do list.

Stuff I believe that isn't a Rule:

On Friendship: "The acid test of friendship for me is how much effort I'm willing to expend to work past the desire to beat your head in with a frying pan when you annoy the shit out of me."

On Love: "If I love you, I will tell you. A lot. I don't ever want to wish I had told someone I did when it's too late."

Quotes I like:

"Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up. - C.S. Lewis

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. -Robert A. Heinlein

You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection. - attributed to Buddha

Complaining is silly. Either act or forget. - Stefan Sagmeister
